Ep 18 Your Favourite Leadership Guru Has Never Met Your Team

How many leadership books do you own that you've actually finished? I own about forty, and if I'm honest, I couldn't tell you the ending of half of them. In this episode I run seven of the biggest names in leadership (Covey, Collins, Sinek, Goleman, Brown, Scott and Lencioni) through four blunt questions: what's the actual evidence, who does it assume "the self" is, who's allowed to speak up, and who's really carrying the risk when it asks someone to be bold? This isn't a takedown. Every one of these frameworks has genuinely helped millions of leaders, myself included. I use pieces of all seven with my own clients. But each one was built in a specific room, for a specific culture, and marketed as if it works everywhere, unchanged. It doesn't. If you've ever watched a brilliant leadership idea land like a lead balloon the moment it crossed a border, an org chart or a personality type, this episode explains exactly why and what to check before you roll out the next one.
